Note: This cache is the culmination of the American Literature series. If you haven’t solved each of the eight mystery puzzles in the American Lit series—AND made the finds and gathered the clues in each—you will not be able to solve this.
Below you will find The Big Grid of American Literature. Created by a fellow HHS teacher, it is a graphic representation of each of the literary time periods in American history broken down into five distinct categories—how each period viewed nature, God, the individual, society, and finally the kinds of literature each period produced. While it would be a mistake to think that all American authors and their works, or even these selected ones, neatly fall into a cookie-cutter category, The Big Grid offers an intriguing snapshot of both each period’s characteristics, and ultimately how American Literature has changed over time.
You’ll notice that The Big Grid is incomplete. In eight of the squares, the descriptors have been replaced with the letters A through H. In each of the eight American Lit mystery caches, you will find one of the missing descriptors. On the back of each descriptor is a number. It is up to you to utilize the knowledge you’ve gained from this series to determine the square’s placement on the Big Grid. The number on the back of the square will replace the appropriate letter value.
Print the Big Grid out and take it with you when you‘ve solved the other eight and are ready to attack the series, otherwise you’ll be taking two trips into the woods.
Note: As a requirement for this find, in your log you have to tell me which piece of literature in the series you enjoyed the most and why. It’s an English teacher thing.
