Geocache Description:

This small duck is very near the pre-2007 site of the famous "Big Duck." This little duck is a little envious of his larger, more famous cousin.

In 1931, Riverhead duck farmer Martin Maurer built this 20-ft. tall, 30-ft. long eye-catcher using concrete (technically, "ferrocement") applied over a wooden frame. Taillights from a Model T Ford became its eyes, glowing red at night. Maurer sold ducks and eggs from the shop in its belly.
Since it's heyday selling ducks and eggs, The Big Duck has shifted locale a few times. In 1988 it moved from Flanders to Hampton Bays (near where this cache is now located) along Route 24 at the entrance of Sears-Bellow County Park.

The duck was returned to its Flanders location on October 6, 2007 and we have placed this little duck here to commemorate it's much larger cousin.
