Geocache Description:

Barrabup Pool has been a favourite swimming hole on hot days for more than a century. It now has a diving platform, nearby loos, a shelter and BBQs. When the Barrabup Mill operated here it was for the exclusive use of the Mill manager and his family. The Mill workers had to use the Workman’s Pool located downstream. Barrabup Pool is fed by St John’s Brook which flows into the nearby Blackwood River which has its mouth at Augusta.

Early last century, this area was alive with the sounds of voices, hissing steam trains and timber crashing to the ground. Read about the history and see the photos on the information sheets. It was a large mill employing 150 men mostly before and after World War 1. The Barrabup village had a bakery, butchers, hospital, post office, hotel, billiard saloon and school. The timber around the area re-grew and then has been cut over again.

At night, the area is mostly quiet except for the grumblings and rumblings of the Troll of Barrabup located not far away. GPS reception is not brilliant here but GZ was located when my GPS accuracy said under 5 m. The cache is about the size of two 35 mm film containers. No room for swaps although FTF will find small trackable.
