Geocache Description:

In Freising lässt sich vieles entdecken. Die Gasse, bei der dieser Cache liegt, ist ein besonderes Schmankerl.

Mit dieser Geocache-Serie lernt Ihr den Landkreis Freising von seinen schönsten Seiten kennen. Wer alle neun Stationen entdeckt hat, kann sich auf einen feinen Kreisrund Bonus freuen (besonders gut für Familien geeignet).
Ihr könnt die Stationen in beliebiger Reihenfolge angehen; sie sind völlig unabhängig voneinander. Nur wer den Bonus machen möchte, muss die zusätzlichen Fragen, die an den einzelnen Stationen zu finden sind, beantworten und sich die Ergebnisse merken.

Bonusfrage: Zweite Ziffer der Hausnummer, bei der sich der Cache befindet.

Auf vielfachen Wunsch sei darauf hingewiesen, dass es sich bei diesem Cache um einen Nano handelt:-)

Freising gehört zu den ältesten Städten Oberbayerns. Die "Gräben" (unterer, mittlerer und oberer) laden zum Bummeln und Betrachten der pittoresken Häuschen ein.

Einen hervorragenden Blick in die Geschichte bietet der Dom, der 1723/24 von den Gebrüdern Cosmas Damian und Aegid Quirin Asam ausgestaltet wurde. Im Freisinger Dom wurde Joseph Ratzinger 1951 zum Priester geweiht. 2005 zum Papst gewählt, besuchte er Freising am 14. September 2006 als Papst Benedikt XVI. Weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten auf dem Domberg sind die romanische Krypta mit der berühmten Bestiensäule, Benediktus- und Johanneskirche, das großartige Diözesanmuseum, die Dombibliothek sowie die ehemalige bischöfliche Residenz, heute Bildungszentrum der Erzdiözese München und Freising.

Immer wieder einen Besuch wert sind auch die historische Altstadt mit ihren schönen Bürgerhäusern, das ehemalige Prämonstratenserkloster Neustift (heute Landratsamt) mit der barocken Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul, das Europäische Künstlerhaus im Schafhof und die Wieskirche im Norden der Stadt.

Bei Pflanzenliebhabern ist der Ruf Freisings eng mit den berühmten Gartenanlagen der Staatlichen Forschungsanstalt für Gartenbau Weihenstephan verbunden. Auch die moderne Architektur auf dem Campus sowie der Skulpturenpark beeindrucken ein internationales Publikum. Gehölzlehrpfad und Walderlebnispfad setzen weitere Akzente. 2001 von der Gesellschaft Deutscher Rosenfreunde zur „Rosenstadt“ ernannt, erfreuen gepflegte Pflanzungen im Stadtgebiet Gäste und Bevölkerung.

Wer nach der Radtour und dem Stadtbummel Erholung und Abkühlung sucht, fährt zum Pullinger See, an den Vöttinger Weiher oder ins Naherholungsgebiet Stoibermühle. Auch die Kiesbänke an der Isar laden zum Ausruhen ein.

Kreisrund in the „Graben“

In the city of Freising there is a lot to discover. The little alley called Graben, where the cache is located, is a very special place.

With this geocache-series you get to know the county of Freising with its most beautiful spots. If you discovered all nine stages, you can look forward to a nice Kreisrund bonus which is very suitable especially for families.
You can approach the stages in any order. They are completely separate from one another. If you aim to find the bonus, you have to answer the additional questions you can find at every single station. Remember the answers and you will be able to find the bonus.

Bonus question: Note the second digit of the number of the house, which is closest to the location of the cache.

As frequently desired, we are making cachers aware that this cache is a Nano.

Freising is one of the oldest towns in Upper Bavaria. The “Gräben” (lower, middle and upper) invite you to stroll around and to look at the picturesque buildings.

An outstanding glimpse into the history gives the cathedral, which was decorated by the brothers Cosmas Damian and Aegid Quirin Asam in 1723/24. In the cathedral of Freising, Joseph Ratzinger was consecrated a priest in 1951. In 2005 raised to the papacy, he visited Freising as Pope Benedikt XVI on the 14th of September 2006. There are many more sights on the “Domberg” in Freising: the Romanesque crypt with a very famous column, the church of Saint Benedict and Saint John, the terrific diocesan museum, the library of the cathedral and the former Episcopal residence which is today the education centre of the archdiocese of Munich and Freising.

Always worth a visit are also the historic old town of Freising with its beautiful town houses, the ancient Premonstratensian monastery (today the administrative office of the district) with the baroque parish church of Saint Peter and Paul, the European arts house and the church of Wies (German: Wieskirche) in the north of the city.

For lovers of plants, Freising is very well-known for the famous gardens of the governmental research institute for gardening in Weihenstephan. The modern architecture on the university campus as well as the sculpture park impresses the international clientele. The educational trail about woody plants and the forest experience path are also worth visiting. In 2001 the city of Freising was appointed „City of roses“ by the German association of rose lovers. Many well looked after roses in the whole city zone please visitors and inhabitants.

If you are looking for refreshment and recreation after a bicycling tour or a stroll through the city you can drive to the lake in Pulling, the lake in Vötting or the nearby recreational area Stoibermühle. The gravel banks along the river Isar also invite you to relax.
