Geocache Description:

A geoláda GCfiu név alatt megtalálható a geocaching.hu oldalon.
This is a memorial of a young motorcyclist killed in a traffic accident in 1936.

Recently the cache has been stolen or vandalized regularly. I am afraid that it won't stop, as long as I keep replacing the box. So, now for a while, I turn this into a virtual, and hopefully, the harmful kids or whoever, will forget about the place, and a cache can be put here again safely.
In the meantime, please search for a word that is carved into the north side of the obelisk, at head height. It has 10 characters and ends with an m. Please, send me that word! Please, do not post a picture of that side of the monument with your log, but photos of any other views are welcome!

György Bartal Jr. was a talented motorcycle racer who lost his life in a traffic accident on August 16th, 1936, in Kölesd. He was riding his motorcycle on the dirt road when a car and a carriage was coming from the opposite direction. Due to the dust caused by the car, he didn't see the horse carriage and ran into it, getting killed by its rod.
According to some sources, this was the first fatal traffic accident in Hungary that involved a motorized vehicle.
The motorcyclist's father, also named György Bartal, was a prominent landowner, of Fadd. He erected a statue, a huge obelisk to commemorate his only son, burying his motorcycle, toys and personal items in a chamber under it. Unfortunately, later this was vandalized and reaved.
The inscription on the memorial says: "György, the sunshine came on September 3rd, 1913. Left on August 16th, 1936. To his blessed memory with loyalty, gratitude, love." 1939. People, don't hurt it.

A similar memorial was erected in Kölesd by the Tolna County Automobil and Motorcycle Club.

The Bartal family was one of the richest families of Fadd. Their name is linked to the Bartal Castle that currently serves as a foster home. Also, ealier they donated to the construction of the Catholic church of Fadd.
