Das Lessingtheater war ein Theater in Berlin-Mitte am Friedrich-Karl-Ufer 1, dem heutigen Kapelle-Ufer. Das Theater bestand in der Zeit von 1888 bis 1945. Das Gebäude entstand zwischen Oktober 1887 und September 1888 im Stil der Neorenaissance anstelle des Zirkus Krembser. Die Eröffnung fand am 11. September 1888 mit Gotthold Ephraim Lessings Stück „Nathan der Weise“ statt.
Der rund 900.000 Mark teure Neubau fand seinerzeit einige Beachtung, da es sich um den ersten bedeutsamen Theaterneubau in Berlin seit dem Wallner-Theater aus dem Jahr 1864 handelte. In den dazwischenliegenden 24 Jahren war es lediglich zu Umbauten alter Theater und bestehender Säle gekommen. Im April 1945 zerstörte ein Bombeneinschlag das Theater, dessen Ruine in den Nachkriegsjahren abgetragen wurde. Quelle: Wikipedia
Auf dem Grundstück am Kapelle Ufer entsteht nun der Neubau des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung, Dienstsitz Berlin (Fertigstellung 2014). Näheres dazu kann man auf der webseite des BMBF erfahren.

The Lessingtheater was a theatre in Berlin-Mitte on the Friedrich-Karl-Ufer 1, the today's Kapelle-Ufer. The theatre existed in the time of 1888 to 1945. The building developed between October 1887 and September 1888 in the style of the Neorenaissance in place of the circus Krembser. The opening took place on 11 September 1888 with Gotthold Ephraim Lessings piece „Nathan the wise “. That approximately 900,000 Marks expensive new building received at that time some attention, since it concerned the first important theatre new building in Berlin since the embankment he theatre out of the year 1864. In the intermediate 24 years it had only come to changes of old theatres and existing halls.

In April 1945 a bomb impact destroyed the theatre, whose ruin in the postwar years was cleared away. On property Kapelle-Ufer develops now the new building of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, service seat Berlin (completion 2014).
