Railway Canal Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Empire: Time to archive this one. There is no access to GZ and the cache needs to be replaced anyway. I'll have a new cache in a new area nearby shortly, it'll get a new listing.

Geocache Description:

The Empire presents… Railway Canal. The 27th cache by The Empire is hidden near The Moonee Ponds Creek.

The Moonee Ponds Creek is a creek and major tributary of the Yarra River running through urban Melbourne, from northern to inner suburbs. In 2004 a reporter for the Age newspaper described it as "arguably the most abused tributary of the Yarra River, and part of the true underside of Melbourne".

It is rural in its upper sections near Greenvale, passing across basalt plains around Woodlands Historic Park, just north of Melbourne Airport. Geocachers know this park well! Towards its mouth it is hemmed in by the Tertiary caps of Essendon and Royal Park before joining the Yarra River. Its artificially widened section is named Railway Canal. That's where we are with this cache. An area which is rapidly improving.

This is a small camoed bison tube, BYO pen. Please ensure the cache is concealed well before you leave. The cache is along a bike path, although it is a short walk from nearby parking. Please be careful of passing bikes whilst signing the log.
