At GZ you will come across a one of Echuca's two way weirs. It can be used to hold water back from entering the Murray or stop flood waters coming up the Murray. It has not been used for this purpose for a long time. You will notice what looks like a clothes line over the drain. This was used for hanging measuring instruments in the water to measure the water flow at different levels and can be reeled in or out as required. This method was used before the introduction of electronic equipment. The drain runs to the Murray River from almost as far as Murchison. It is also known as the Deakin Drain.
The cache is magnetic with log only.We have not come across one of these caches ourselves but there are quite a few out and about.
GZ is near water so please keep watch on your children.
BYO pen and please replace as found.
Local dogs may bark but you won't see them!!
Happy caching!!!
