The walk to this cache will take about 30 to 40 minutes depending on how good you are at walking in sand and hopping over rocks... It will lead you into an area of North Clare that very many miss - and I am not only talking about the lovely beach. There is a natural surprise just below the the hiding point of the cache...
The way to the cache starts at the end of the carpark / top of the beach. Go right/north from the wooden steps down to the beach, and cross the Caher River (if there is any water in it - when it is totally dry you wouldn't know that there should be a river). Follow the shoreline leaving the beach behind.
When you leave the beach to cross over some black, flat limestone pavement, look at the white fossil marks in the stone. If you look around a bit and especially on the rocks, you can even see some fossils sticking out! Very fine examples of how the Burren was made up of dead mussels, corals and other marine life 340 million years ago, when the whole of Ireland was submerged and formed the seabed of a tropical sea near the equator.
Follow the shoreline further - please avoid stomping through the dunes, as they are being destroyed by uncontrolled walking-through. But have a peek into the natural "amphitheater" on the way.
When the dunes flatten and there is a break in them, you leave the immediate rocky shore area and go onto the grass track. In this area, there might be cattle around, but they are usually friendly.
Walk up the grassy track parallel to the shore until you come to GZ.
Take care to arrange the stones again in a way that muggles cannot see the cache.
If you want to see the natural surprise, just approach - carefully - the cliff edge and look down. You will see an arch down on the shore. Please bear in mind that the cliff edge is eroding and can drop off any time.
The initial cache contained: a book by John Grisham "The last Juror", a new red lighter, a wooden cat, a glittery night light, a broach, two shells. Please take a picture of the cache once you have exchanged your bits. Thanks!
