Geocache Description:

A puzzle involving Astronomy and Geometry.

This is a series of 19 puzzle caches in the shape of a question mark on the map of Burgess Hill. All hides are within (or on the very edge of) the urban area of Burgess Hill, but I have tried to keep them away from places overlooked by buildings.

This is a photo of downtown burgess hill I took with a long lens from the top of Ditchling beacon... plus an addition

No no no. I’m certainly not suggesting that a skyscraper would be a good addition to Burgess Hill. Just having some fun with a new puzzle and Adobe Photoshop.

Now my last puzzle was solved far too easily, so I’m picking up the pace a bit for this one.

Imagine the London Shard was built exactly at the published co-ordinates of this cache. You do not need to visit the published co-ordinates, which are on private land. This fictional structure would cast quite a shadow over the suburbs of Burgess hill, but how far? The actual location of this puzzle cache is at the end of the shadow that it would cast at 09:34am BST on 30th April 2012.

Assume that the ground level at the published co-ordinates is the same altitude as the ground level at the cache co-ordinates, (Burgess Hill isn’t that hilly lets face it).

I’ve set the difficulty level to 4.5 because.. you never know. I might dream up something worse one day. If you are struggling to find a site to help you with the astronomy bit try typing calsky (for calculated-sky) into a search engine.

Here are a couple of Astronomy terms you might need:

Altitude = The angle that a celestial object makes with the horizon.

Azimuth = The bearing (0 – 360) of a celestial object

I don't want to give too much away but after rain you might need wellies to reach GZ with dry feet
