Geocache Description:

One of only two known original stone markers, marker #18 marks the location of the 1759 ten mile camp on the original route as laid out in 1759.  About .1 mile from the parking area. The road (Branch Brook Rd.) leading to this cache was washed out by Irene last year, but has been fully repaired.  This is an offset cache. You will need to find the stone, then use a compass to find a 310 deg. mag. heading and go about two rods to find the actual cache.

This marker can be found by following the path down from the trail head about .1 mile .  Stay on the path past the two posts, keep left and it will take you right to the stone itself.  The original road was marked and built in the fall of 1759 and then improved and sometimes rerouted in 1760.    Mile stone markers were placed along the road along the southern end, but all but two of the original markers have been lost.  The second nearby, was restored according to a plaque on it in 1922. This one is still in as done condition it is believed.  The granite markers placed along current roads are later twentieth century additions and mark where or near where the 1759/60 road is thought to have been. The 1760 road along which most are located are in some cases miles from the earlier '59 road.  More information on the roads are available by checking with the Crown Point Road Association website.
