Geocache Description:

Camo'd Match Holder inside the Cemetery

Tres Piedras is Spanish for Three Rocks.  This lumbering and ranching community was named for three large granite formations to the West.  The rocks were a favorite hunting ground of the Tewa Indians whose name for the site means "Mountain Sheep Rock Place".  These granite outcropping rocks are geologically part of the granite of the Tusas Mountains, West of Tres Piedras.

There used to be several sawmills in this area and now that number is down to one.  Recently the main business, a gas station and store, closed so there is not much activity going on.  The US Forest Service does have an office here.  All kids ride a school bus to Ojo Caliente, about 30 plus miles South.

Spirit caches are a series placed at or near NM cemeteries in hopes of paying respect to the Pioneer ancestors having "gone" on before us, and, possibly picking up a bit of history on the area.
