Geocache Description:

As I drive around this part of Maine, I find that I have a particular curiosity about this kind of feature. To whit: of what is the community afraid? Also: how effective is the protection provided, and is this the most cost-effective strategy?

Ah, I apologize for my precipitate departure in the previous study, Community Guardens #3 (GC3NGNG). I accidentally hit the playback button of my protective suit’s recording device, which made me believe – well, that’s another story.

What is of great import here is the reckless and systematic disregard of the nearby populace. I have been studying this particular site for some time, to the point of securing observers to gather information of a statistical nature. I have even appeared before the standing, elected committees supposedly responsible for community safety, and suffered total disregard. What I and my dedicated volunteers have been on the alert for is the dreaded Shiite Crocodile. If you would but follow the coordinates to this spot, you will see for yourself the puny response to this monster.

Now, to date I have been concerned about the threat posed by insects, as they are evolutionarily positioned for survival through their sheer numbers in populations and variety of species. We must, nonetheless, not fail to consider others in the animal kingdom, and thus I have turned my attention to the legendary Croc of Shiite. This living cognate of the army tank was known to survive – and even thrive during - the dreaded poison wars waged on the borders between Iran and Iraq during the time of Saddam Hussein. Native to the swamps along the Basra River, they had long been known to threaten the oil industry workforce in the area; with this in mind, they were bred to the status of a truly fearsome, unstoppable attack force.

The speculation is that eggs of the Shiite Croc were poached collaterally during the illegal trapping of tropical fish aimed for export to well-off collectors in the States. When local owners died or tired of the collections, they were secretly dumped into the Cape Elizabeth marshes, which proved a fertile ecosystem for these opportunistic and adaptable creatures. From this point, it was only a matter of time before the Crocs became endemic.

Have you ever wondered why there were so few children in Cape Elizabeth? Wonder no longer. The authorities have covered up the existence of this Croc for so long, that heedless citizens have become understandably careless and carefree. It is up to us to stop this nonsense, which is why I have solicited the army of volunteer observers to track this beast of the backwaters.

Unfortunately, the need for volunteers is a never-ending task; most I have engaged in the past do not return my communications. I fear for the worst, and am resolved to redouble my efforts to engage others, as the threat now seems to have hit too close to home. I have left behind a container, log included. I will utilize this information to contact you and formalize an observation schedule – based on the success of the Woolwich Fish Ladders - which will work for all and eventually bolster our objective permanently to remove this horror from our midst.

Many congrats to the FTF townies kayakerinme and eebee, worthy volunteers both, and a kayak to boot!
