Dreams of Flight

For as long as I can remember, I've had 'Flying Dreams'....Flying like Peter Pan though landscapes and adventures.   As a teen, I joined Civil Air Patrol and had my first experience in flying an aircraft.  It's been LOVE ever since.  There is no feeling or experience like it!

But life has its way of putting distance between us and our dreams.  Then in September 2011, just before I turned 50, I saw this amazing little machine flying... called a Trike.  I was so enraptured that my dreams came rushing back.   It was time!   I began lessons shortly thereafter.  This Geocash commemorates achieving my Private Pilots Licence... right here in Rochester!!

Every flight has rewarded me with new experiences.  Three of my favorites:

Rainbow & Shadow! - Seeing the shadow of my little plane through a round rainbow on the tops of clouds
Swirling 'round Clouds! - Swooping, rising, and carving patterns around clouds that I swore changed their shape a little!
Flying with a Hawk! - While doing low level manuevers, seeing a hawk flying the same lazy S we were over a road.

So I share with you this inspirational poem and hope you too may be so inspired!!

High Flight

by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
