This is a field puzzle, cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. You must drive on I-540 eastbound (clockwise-inner), starting at the intersection of I-40 (milemarker 0), and exiting at EXIT 14 Falls of the Neuse. You will observe items along the way, which will give you the digits you need to find the final cache location. Park temporarily at the calculation coordinates below, to give you somewhere to safely make your calculations.
You might miss some of these signs at night, so plan to do during the day, preferably not during rush hour. Have a partner with you to get the information while you drive safely. Easy access, the final will be within 1/2 mile of the posted coordinates, but it is NOT on I-540, so don't even think of looking there.
Starting at the intersection of I-540 and I-40, proceed eastbound (clockwise-inner) on I-540.
____ (A). You will immediately see a small green sign on your right as the roads are merging, with two words on it. Take the number of letters of the first word, and subtract the number of letters of the second word. That digit is "A".
____ (B). At Exit 4B you will see an Exit mph XX sign. The last digit of that sign is "B".
____ (C). At about the 5.4 MM (Mile Marker), you will see an overhead sign stating lane ending in XXX feet. The first digit of that sign is "C".
____ (D). At about the 7.8 MM, you will see a small green XXXX sign. The second digit of that sign is "D".
____ (E). At about the 10 MM, you will see another small green XXXX sign. Add the second and the fourth digit, that will be "E".
____ (F). Now take exit 14 - Falls of the Neuse and get in the left lane so you can turn left (northbound) on Falls Neuse. At the end of the ramp before you turn, you will see a blue sign straight ahead. How many of the letter "C" are on that sign? That is the last digit (F). Proceed to the temporary parking coordinates at N 35° 53.915 W 078° 36.510 to safely do your calculations.
Note that there is a different sequence in the use of the digits, than the order that you wrote them down. The final coordinates are:
