This earth cache will teach you about a “tombolo,” a mound that forms at low tide creating a sandbar which connects an island to the mainland. In the case of this earthcache, the tombolo connects Salt Island to Good Harbor Beach. In simple terms, a tombolo is formed by, in this case Salt Island refracting and bending waves around the island, and sediment and sand forming when waves meet.
