SÉRIE 'O BRASIL NAS COPAS DO MUNDO' - Jogador #8: Dunga - "O Capitão do Tetra"
Em 2014, a Copa do Mundo de Futebol foi disputada no Brasil. Esta série de caches tem o objetivo de celebrar este evento e repassar a história da seleção brasileira nas Copas do Mundo, do Campeonato de 1958 ao Pentacampeonato de 2002 e, quem sabe, o Hexacampeonato em 2018, na Rússia.
Dado que estamos aqui falando de futebol, foram selecionados, para esta série, 11 jogadores, representativos de cada um dos 5 campeonatos ganhos pelo Brasil desde 1958. Para cada campeonato ganho, 2 jogadores, num total de 10 jogadores, dos quais 1 é goleiro. E, para representar o conjunto da obra brasileira nas copas do mundo, o Rei do Futebol: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, o Pelé.
A escolha dos jogadores obedeceu a um critério: a relevância ou representatividade daquele jogador para a história do futebol brasileiro, no humilde entendimento do owner desta série de caches! O objetivo não é montar a "seleção brasileira dos sonhos" pois este owner sabe que, a depender das preferências individuais de cada um, a discussão poderia ser eterna.

JOGADOR #8: Dunga - "O Capitão do Tetra"
Dunga nasceu em Ijuí, no Rio Grande do Sul, em 31 de outubro de 1963. Seu nome de batismo: Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri. A região onde nasceu foi povoada entre o final do século XIX e início do século XX por colônias de origem italiana e alemã, daí que sua família mistura sobrenomes de ambas origens.
Sua carreira na seleção não foi marcada pela quantidade de gols - foram somente seis - mas sim pelas conquistas das quais participou, apoiando o time na posição de volante. Sua primeira participação em Copas foi no ano de 1990.
Naquela época, o Brasil vinha de um jejum de campeonatos desde a conquista de 1970. Nas duas participações anteriores, em 1982 e 1986, o Brasil havia sido eliminado e o técnico Telê Santana fora acusado de somente selecionar jogadores do futebol-arte, porém sem técnica. Foi então que o técnico Sebastião Lazaroni partiu para um novo modelo, em que os critérios de seleção dos jogadores se pautariam mais pela técnica, resistência física e força. Dunga era um jogador aguerrido, lutador, de pegada e com um potentíssimo chute de direita. Foi campeão da Copa do Mundo de 1994 como Capitão do time.
Dunga foi o principal símbolo deste novo estilo de jogo da seleção, e o período no qual esteve em vigor ficou conhecido pelos brasileiros como "A Era Dunga".

'BRAZIL IN THE WORLD CUPS' GEOCACHE SERIES
In 2014, the World Cup of Soccer took place in Brazil. The objective of this cache series is to celebrate that event and review the history of the Brazilian national team in the World Cups, from the first victory in 1958 up to the fifth one in 2002 and, who knows, the 6th one in 2018, in Russia.
Given that we’re speaking about football here, a total of 11 players were picked for this cache series, representing each one of the 5 world cups won by Brazil since 1958. For each championship won, 2 players; 10 in total, 1 of them a goalkeeper. And, representing the Brazilian national team assembled conquests in the World Cups, the King of Football: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, aka Pelé.
The players’ selection followed one criterion: the relevance or representativeness of each player to the Brazilian soccer history, in the humble opinion of this series’ cache owner! The objective is not to assemble the “all time Brazilian national dream team” because this owner know that, depending on each one’s particular preferences, there would be eternal discussion!
BTW: thinking on the development of a ‘tourist friendly’ cache series, any information needed to solve the mysteries in this cache series can be found in English over the internet – a nicely done Google search, even with an English input, will do it – believe me, I’ve tested it!
You may pursue the whole series in one single sequence or to pick your favorite players to go after, as you prefer. If you want to go after the whole series, it is recommended to do it in the same order of the players and to be prepared for a 3km walk

PLAYER #8: Dunga - "The 'Tetra' captain"
Dunga was born in Ijuí in Rio Grande do Sul, on October 31, 1963. His birth name: Carlos Caetano Verri Bledorn. The region where he was born was settled between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century by colonies of Italian and German, so that his family surnames is a mixture of both origins.
His international career was not marked by the amount of goals - six only - but the achievements of which he participated, supporting the team from his midfield defender position. His first participation in World Cups was in 1990.
At that time, Brazil had not won a championship since the 1970 victory. In two previous appearances in 1982 and 1986, Brazil was eliminated and coach Tele Santana was accused of only selecting art-soccer players but of limited technique. It was then that coach Sebastiao Lazaroni went for a new model, in which the selection criteria of players would be more likely to technique, stamina and strength. Dunga was a combative player, a fighter with a very powerful shot from the right. In 1994, he became world champion with the Brazilian team being the squad's captain.
Dunga was the main symbol of this game style of the Brazilian team, and the period during which it was in effect became known by the Brazilians as the "Dunga Era."
