Geocache Description:

The Leighton Memorial was erected in 1885 in memory of the Leighton household. The monument honors the land that Thomas Leighton purchased upon arriving in the area in 1633 and where he lived his life. This area is a burial ground but only one fallen headstone, covered in plexiglass of John Leighton remains. It is not specifically known where Thomas Leighton is buried so be respectful when you are on the site; you may be standing on top of him.

I have permission from the landowner, Mr. Simpson to place this geocache here. He was a great guy to talk to and most of his family is buried in the graveyard that you can see in the distance. He said that up until a few years ago no one knew about the Leighton Memorial because a huge tree was in front of it so you could not see it from the road. Once they cut down the tree an you could see it people started stopping by asking him why he put the memorial up!

This is private property so be respectful. You have permission to park on the side of the road near the memorial to retrieve the geocache.

FTF prize is a ships coin from my submarine, the USS PASADENA (SSN 752)

I spent a little bit of time putting this unique geocache container together so please be gentle when retrieving it. It’s pretty sturdy but make sure the flowers are set back in place and the container is firmly in the ground when you leave.  This unique container is in plain sight and labeled as a geocache. Only use the hint if you need to. Do NOT try this at night!

Please bring your own pen (BYOP) to sign the cache.

I feel that this cache location encompasses  what geocaching is all about and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
