Geocache Description:

Easy puzzle with an easy cache at the end. This micro is placed in an area where you can do a few things. Maybe volleyball, or golf, or just maybe lunch.Maybe bring a frisbee if you have one.

Before the Manhattan Project and even before the Los Alamos Ranch School, hearty pioneers braved the extreme weather conditions of the Pajarito Plateau and homesteaded the land. More than 30 homesteads were established between the 1880s and 1942, when the federal government took over the plateau for the Manhattan Project. Today, the stories of some of these families are told in a tour, developed by volunteers of the Los Alamos County Fuller Lodge/Historic Districts Advisory Board in conjunction with the Los Alamos County Parks Department and the Los Alamos Historical Society.

Many of the remnants left behind by these homesteads have been destroyed but subtle hints are still scattered in a few places. The sites focus on the homesteads within the Los Alamos residential areas that are easily accessed. You do not necessarily have to visit all these sites to solve this puzzle and only a small micro cache awaits you at the end but this should be easy and a little bit of history can’t hurt.
