Geocache Description:

Welcome to Southern Maine's best kept historical secret location. This is a must stop for any geocache trip. To quote a couple of previous logs:

"This cache is the reason I love geocaching! It brings me to places I never would have seen. My twin brother has worked 100 steps from here for 10 years and he never knew it existed!"

&

"It's amazing the things you see and learn when you Geocache, I've worked a couple of days a week in this area for the past 25 years and never knew about this location, thank you for bringing me here!
Truly amazing background, scenery, and overall ambiance."

Here is a little local history (LLH) of this island:

Badger's Island was once the hub of ship building on the east coast. The most famous ship built here was the USS Ranger in 1777. The USS RANGER was an 18-gun Sloop-of-war that was commanded by John Paul Jones. Try and take a moment to imagine what this place was like back then. This place helped a fledging America gain its independence from England. I have attached a Wikipedia page to this cache listing so you can read more about the island and its history.

From the parking area look for some stairs across the street. Walk up the stairs as this is a publically accessible easement. There will be a cemetery on your right and small rectangular monument/tomb for Master Badger on your left. Be sure to check out the Tomb’s inscriptions, they’re pretty intricate. This is actually a great spot to do a rubbing of the tombstone with some tracing paper.

You are looking for a camouflaged, lock n lock container that is under some rocks on the top of a rock wall. Look for some loose flat rocks and move them aside to find the cache. Be sure to re-cover when you are done and leave no trace!

The FTF prize is a ships coin from my Fast Attack Submarine, the USS PASADENA (SSN 752)

Enjoy,

-Tim & Cara

***Congrats to Bumble! on yet another FTF!***
