Geocache Description:

This cache is within a 1 mile radius of the published co-ordinates.

To find the cache, you will need to hone your skills in morse code. Since its inception in 1836, morse code has been instrumental in the development of radio-telegraphy and navigation. Whilst still being used for some aviation navigation and amateur radio applications, its use is now sadly in decline. So in a small but poignant way, this cache aims to keep the skills alive!

Muggles and doggles could be a problem, so take care when at GZ. You are looking for a 35mm film canister, hence you need to take your own pen. Waypoint averaging has been used to set the co-ordinates, but tree cover could be problematic, especially at certain times of the year.

***Please replace the cache and camo in the exact same place as you found it***

To find the co-ordinates and hint, you need to unravel the morse code in this audio file [click here]. This is at 15 words per minute, which is around the minimum speed required in WW2 - it was often double this speed, and more!

This might be useful:

... and [click here] to find more background information, including the two main ways of learning morse (the Farnsworth and Koch methods) - although you should be able to crack this one just with some careful listening and transcribing the 'dits' and 'dahs' on to paper. Take particular care with the mid-range numbers as they can often be the hardest to distinguish.

As with many puzzle caches, the challenge/fun in this one is the deciphering, rather than the actual location or type of cache container being anything remarkable. I have set the difficulty as a 3.5, let's see how folk get on... All successful finders are sworn to secrecy about the location of the cache... Good luck!

[20th Jan 2013 - Interesting to watch the stats in the 4 months since placing this cache: c. 200 visitors, 481 'plays' of the morse, 15 correct & 35 incorrect entries on the geochecker, only 5 finds of the cache... perhaps this is trickier than I thought... so the cache difficulty rating has been moved up from 3.5 to 4]
