The idea of this simple puzzle came after receiving an exchange of witty emails between friends at the Vintage Gliding Club based at Lasham airfield.

The occasion was going to be a fish dinner, organised for its members, and, as always, ‘fines’ (for whatever reason...could be for wearing the wrong type of trousers..) were going to be collected in the shape of £1 coin in the aid of the club.

MB’s email: ‘Oh cod! I haddock in my diary but I am whiting to say something else has bream put in.  Feel a right Pilchard!
Mustn’t carp on. Have a great snapper!’
 
LL’s answer: ‘There's a time and a plaice for that, M. Although I accept it was all in good sole. With all those fines tonight, the new Gliding Heritage Centre should be squids in! It won’t be bleak!’
