ENG: The story goes that this former shipyard is closely linked to Quinta da Fidalga, founded and habited by Paulo da Gama, Vasco da Gama's brother, in the fifteenth century. It was here, under the supervision of Paulo da Gama, the 4 caravels that supposedly would make him reach to India were built.
In present days, only two stone columns remains from the shipyard, the last one of the ancients brick built shipyards, resting in front of a jetty built to give you the view of the Baia do Seixal. The surrounding area was restructured and integrated into the Passeio Ribeirinho do Seixal that, with its bike path and green space, gives passersby a beautiful walk along the river shore at any time of day.
