Geocache Description:

The ruins are in the wide valley west of today’s Yang-Yang. You have to ask around. Besides the ruins is a grave yard with the tomb of Alboury Ndiaye. Just across the tomb is the entrance to the ruins where the cache is hidden. There is a logbook, coins but no pen

Yang-Yang is off the normal routes in Senegal but it is worth a visit. You can go there from Linguère which can be easily reached from Dakar. From there it is a bit tricky but possible as a day trip. Yang- Yang is the old capitol of the Djolof empire. The empire rose in the thirteenth century and lasted until 1600. But Yang-Yang played a role even during the French colonial period. A royal from Yang-Yang, Alboury Ndiaye, was resisting the French.  He died 1898 in Sokoto (today Nigeria). There is a tomb in Yang-Yang just near the ruins of ancient Yang-Yang.The cache is hidden at the entrance to the ruin just opposite the tomb. You do not need any permission to access the ruin.
If you are interested in more, there is a small unfortunately run down museum about the Djolof history in the village Yang-Yang. Look for a remarkable building. You need to request assistance from the family living in the homestay just besides the building to get access.
Yang-Yang is in the Ferlo region of Senegal. It is a typical Sahelian environment. The people, Wolof and Pheul, rely mainly on livestock herding with additional cropping. The climate is hot and dry in winter and hot and humid in summer.
