A Puzzle about tetrahedral pyramids
This is a series of 19 puzzle caches in the shape of a question mark on the map of Burgess Hill. All hides are within (or on the very edge of) the urban area of Burgess Hill, but I have tried to keep them away from places overlooked by buildings.
Consider the diagram showing pyramids made up of a number of metal balls.
In the diagram two pyramids of the same size are then dismantled and rearranged to make a third larger pyramid. The third pyramid exactly uses all the balls in the first two. This is the minimum number of balls (20) which you can arrange like this.
In the above arrangement the two starting pyramids are both the same size. What would be the minimum number of balls needed to recreate this, if the two starting pyramids were different sizes.
Number of balls in smaller starting pyramid = ABC
Number of balls in larger starting pyramid = DEF
Number of balls in combined pyramid = JKL
Zero fill these numbers if you need to. The cache can be found at:
N 50 5(E+L).(K+C)(A+F)(D-B), W 000 07.(K-A)(K+A)(K-D)
