Geocache Description:

I was cleaning up some boxes in the basement when I came across this stamp. I decided it would make a good letterbox stamp. Remember the stamp stays in the cache.

Nobody knows if the Celtic Cross is a pagan symbol or a Christian symbol. In Ireland, it is a popular legend that the Celtic Christian Cross was introduced by Saint Patrick by combining the Christian Cross with the pagan symbol for the sun, but there are no examples from that time period. High crosses made of stone started appearing in Ireland in the 8th century. They became popular as funerary monuments and spread to Great Britain and beyond.

Today the Celtic Cross is as much a symbol of ethnic heritage as it is of faith and is often used as an emblem of Irish, Scottish or Welsh identity.  Today the Celtic Cross appears on jewelry, T-shirts, tattoos, coffee cups and other retail items.

You can park at the kiosk on Alden Rd and ride in on the bike path the whole way. Or you can park at Liggett Rd and walk into the bike path and turn right for the cache. Please be sure to wear orange during hunting season.
