When oil was discovered under the North Sea he was asked to help design and test a small rescue ship that could be used if oil leaked from the drilling operations. Scientists pointed out that the oil would float and, if it caught fire, a large area around the oil rig would be blazing and rescue would be impossible.
My Father and his team designed a rescue boat that pumped seawater from underneath and sprayed it upwards over the deck keeping it cool and free from burning oil. It could then approach the rig through the blazing sea and rescue anyone stranded there.
So far as I'm aware, it was never needed - thankfully.
Which brings me to the Ship Roundabout in Lagos which is the only other vessel I've seen, apart from a submarine, where the water is above as well as below. And certainly the only other one that shoots water into the air!
If you are not familiar with Lagos, there are several interesting and innovative roundabouts which the Camara (Council) has created and now maintains. In my view the Ship roundabout is the most spectacular of all.
It welcomes you as you come into Lagos from the East on the N125 and it never fails to impress - especially when all the fountains are operating fully.
To locate this cache you will need to do some research near the roundabout - you do NOT have to go on to the roundabout so please don't approach it. The solutions can be found close by and the cache is a 5 minute walk away. Substitute your answers into the following formula to find the coords for the cache.

Start outside the small church.
It was renovated in the ?? century. C = the second number less the first number.
How many sides are there to the chancel? Answer is B
Now go clockwise around the roundabout until you reach another religious object.
There is an inscription "MPF ???? The first digit is E. Deduct the 3rd and 4th digits from the 2nd and you have F.
Continue clockwise around the roundabout and you will see a blue sign consisting of one letter and two numbers.
What is the total of the two numbers? Answer is D.
Carry on around the roundabout and you will come to some zebra crossings (passadeiras).
On the carriageway leaving Lagos signposted towards Portimão, how many white stripes cross the road (ignore the route into town)? Answer = A.
