Geocache Description:

A visit to another old Southern Vermont Cemetary.   This site has stones dating back to late 1700's  (1786) which for this region at that time was the early days of VERMONT.    Please be careful around the aging stones, and stonewall.  Access to the cache is winter friendly and does not require movement of any stones along the wall.  The cache does not require entry into the cemetary, though your certainly welcome to visit..

This picturesque hillside cemetary is one of the older town cemetaries in the Putney area.  The Fort at East Putney ( 2nd in 1744) was at that time a long couple of miles northeast of here but seemingly demonstrated the support for ranging outside the safety of the Fort.   Indians from the Abenaki and Ompomet Indian Nations were amongst the nearby hills, and Putneys early settlers used the streams nearby for fishing, the fields for farming, and the woods for production of timber.

I've created this cache in honor of my "Family Tree" which included my Great Grandfather Sidney Lucia who rests nearby to the Cache. Born October 4th, 1853 I doubt that he could have ever envisioned his great grandson, born a hundred years later could have ever gotten to paid him homage in this manner.  He lived a hard life of 76 years passing on January 15th, 1927.  His legacies included purchase of our home which has remained in the family for more then 100 years. and a family whose appreciation for his efforts included usage of his sir-name as my middle name,  Lucia.

As I approach my 100th, find I place this cache as a tribute to family, our freedoms and mostly FUN.  It is a 3x5 lock - n - lock with greetings, log, and limited space for tradeables. There's swag for all, and items for FTF.  I left a travel bug and because of it's speciality to me will likely visit it often to drop off more special reasons to come and visit this site.  It should be winter friendly as well. This Cache is placed after review by andwith permission of the Putney Cemetary Commissioners.
