Are you a bit puzzled by that statement? Let us elaborate. There are 12 special dates that happen every 87 years. Those special dates are the ones in which the day, month and year have the same two-digit numerical value (ex. Jan 1, 2001 was 01-01-01 and December 12, 2012 is 12-12-12). They only happen on the first twelve years of every century. Therefore, 12-12-12 won't be back for 100 years, beyond our lifetime. Some people believe (us NOT included) that this will be the last time this date will occur as the Mayan calendar comes to an end nine days later (12-21-12), and with it, the end of the world.
Personally, we don't believe in such a thing. However, to err on the side of caution (just kidding), we have decided to mark this special date with a geocaching event! You see, for us, the opening statement is true. For all intents and purposes, this is the last time one of these dates will come again for us. So, why not celebrate it!
With great excitement, we request your presence to the posted coordinates for a time of great fun, fellowship, and food. For those of you with a proper GPS or a smartphone using Google maps, you will have no trouble finding the spot. For you iPhone 5 users and those who were unfortuneate enough to upgrade your iOS, the event is at Don Cherry's on Freshwater Road. I certainly wouldn't want Apple Maps sending you to Nairobi, Kenya. The event will start at 6:30PM. Hope the time is good for everyone! You are required to bring your own money.
To help celebrate this day, we are giving one lucky cacher a special unactivated 12-12-12 trackable. So you might not want to miss it! Also, Groundspeak is awarding a souvenir to any cacher who finds a cache or attends an event on this date. Another reason to be there.
