Why fish out of a hole when there's a whole ocean out there? Because it's more fun & your chances of getting a bite are almost guaranteed. Flomango had a cache at this spot a few months ago. I was too late in replacing it before it got archived, so I'm dedicating this one to him - on his birthday (date hidden)! Happy birthday, Flomango!

Parking fees brings big income to the City of Santa Monica. There's many places to park around the pier. Parking on the pier would be the most expensive. There's meter marking on Ocean and side streets or Pay parking ($1 / hr) by the volleyball courts. Take a bike ride or use leg power along the strand. It's a little tame up here compared to Venice, but still very entertaining. You may even see Flomango doing some awesome moves on his Slackline nearby, next to the rings.
You will have to go to the south entrance to the bike path that goes under Santa Monica Pier. Please use caution when near the bike path. The fishing hole is easy to spot. The mild challenge is to fish out the cache. If you've been to my other fishing cache, Something's Fishy About This One (GC42GEX), you'll need a similar TOTT. No worries, there's one provided for you in the cache host. Please coil the fishing line before replacing TOTT in holder. The container can hold very small items. It can be dropped back into the fishing hole from either end. BYOP.
No fishing permit or prior experience required. Catch, SL, & release.
Please use caution when near the bike path. There's parking advantages if you come after sundown, but be on the lookout for the homeless.
