In preparation for maple sugar season, you might rest your drill here while tapping in your spigot; though after the snow flies, you would likely have to dig it.

“Pioneer Church. First church services held in a barn on this site,” reads the familiar blue and gold historical marker.
The first sermon preached in the town of Cuyler was by Benoni Harris, in 1808. The services were held here in Slingerland's barn. After that event, religious services were kept up with something like regularity by supplied or traveling ministers who preached in private houses or school houses until the year 1839, when the Methodist church building of Cuyler was erected.
The 600-acre Revolutionary War land tract upon which this barn stands was awarded to John Cuyler (who never settled in the area) and willed to daughter Lydia who then sold it to the Slingerlands early on. In 1942, Harry Custer took ownership of the dairy farm until 1999 when son Tim became sole owner, today raising cash crops that include corn, soybeans and hay.
In the early spring when the maple sap is running, Tim Custer operates a sugar shack across the road from the barn. An old cemetery is located up the hill behind the maple syrup operation, and a Slingerland descendant is known to visit there from time to time.
