Westover Park is located in one of Tredyffrin’s more densely populated areas along the Lancaster Avenue/Main Line corridor. It is surrounded predominantly by middle-income, single-family homes. Westover Park has a unique history and this is the reason the site has remained vacant. The property initially served as the home of the Pennsylvania Fireworks Display Company. In 1930, an experimental gun powder was allowed to sit next to a stove which caused a large explosion that killed several workers, shattered windows, and blew out doors in homes up to five miles away. The repercussions of the 750 pounds of gunpowder and other flammable chemicals were felt as far away as Philadelphia and Hammonton, New Jersey. Since that time, the site has lain vacant and been referred to as the Fireworks Tract.
