O caminho municipal do Chão da Lagoa foi projetado e construído nos anos 40 do século passado, com o objetivo de estabelecer uma ligação até ao Pico do Areeiro. Ao mesmo tempo foram construídos diversos miradouros com vista sobre a cidade, e outras infraestruturas para estabelecer aqui um parque para o recreio e lazer dos funchalenses.
The municipal way of Chão da Lagoa was designed and built in the 40s of last century, in order to establish a connection to Pico Areeiro. While various viewpoints were built overlooking the city, and other infrastructure to establish here a park for recreational and leisure to the Funchal population.

Deste miradouro é possível observar no vale à sua esquerda o Ribeiro ou Córrego do Pisão, na cumeada que desce, ao fundo, a Casa do Barreiro, de onde parte um caminho florestal que serpenteia a encosta para a direita, base de uma ampla panorâmica sobre a baia do Funchal.
From this viewpoint you can see in the valley to your left, Brook of Pisão, the ridge that descends to the bottom, the Casa do Barreiro, from where a forest path that meanders the slope to the right, base an extensive overview over Funchal bay.
A Cache: A designação “Pisão” na nossa ilha remete para um utensílio utilizado para pisar os cereais, retirando as cascas. No Parque Ecológico do Funchal é a designação para o primeiro miradouro do caminho municipal do Chão da Lagoa, para um ribeiro e uma emblemática ponte. Visite o “mirante” e procure o “Pisão” no interior do tronco, do que foi outrora um frondoso cipreste.
The Cache: The designation "Pisão" on our island refers to a tool used to stomp the cereals, removing the husks. In Funchal Ecological Park is the designation for the first viewpoint of the municipal way Chão da Lagoa, to a brook and an iconic bridge. Visit the "viewpoint" and look for the "Pisão" inside the trunk of what was once a leafy cypress.
