That’s right. You’re being taken back to Lake Ontelaunee again. New caches have been popping up at this lake recently and we suppose the reason is that this area is a great playground for us geocachers. It definitely has been our playground since we started geocaching. It has a lot to offer…great trails, nice views, and a place to search at night. Yes, Lake Ontelaunee is a great place to cache and that’s why we’re bringing you back.
This particular area is around the back of the lake and provides a nice hike from multiple trailheads. This cache is one of two caches that we are placing back here so that you can enjoy this trail. You have three places that you can park and pick up the trail. The one that you choose will determine your level of hike and cardiovascular workout. The listed terrain of this cache is based on the toughest of the three locations you can choose to come from.
Parking 1 (closet to cache): Approx. a ¾ mile round trip hike with a small hill that may wind you slightly. Terrain is around 2 ½
Parking 2 (next closet to cache): Slightly less than a mile round trip hike. This is the easiest terrain of the three and is probably a 2
Parking 3 (furthest from cache): Approx. a 1.25 mile round trip hike with the toughest terrain of the three. It has a decent incline at the one part that will probably wind you slightly. Terrain is around a 3 (maybe 3 ½)
You will be on public hunting grounds so please make sure to where ORANGE during hunting season.
