4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Jack Smith (Scavenger Jack), 6 May 1910 - 31 January 1986, was a local Copping identity who operated the former garage next door.

Many thanks for OldSaint for agreeing to maintain this cache for me.

Scavenger Jack was a blacksmith, sculptor and prodigious collector.  More information about Scavenger Jack is available in the coffee shop/museum next door.  I strongly recommend a walk around the museum to look at the collection of bits and pieces.  There's a lot of tools and cooking things there that my parents used when I was a child and the walk around evoked a lot of memories for me.  When I visited there was a helpful 'guide' who spoke about convict life and times.

On to the cache:

Located in front of you (to your north) are some of Scavenger Jacks sculptures, you will need to take note of the creatures to be able to find the cache.

a = number of mermaids (total of adults and children)
b = number of fish
c = number of angels
d = number of green monsters

The cache is nearby and can be found at

S    42 49.RST
E  147 48.XYZ   where

R = c
S = a + b + c
T = d
X = b - c - d
Y = a + b
Z = a - d - d

Happy scavenging!

Note the house to the north of the sculptures is in use as a private residence.  Please respect the privacy of the house occupants and do not enter the yard beyond the sculptures.

Feedback as to the accuracy of the final coordinates will be greatfully received.
