A cache placed at the entrance to the Hobart or Beaumaris Zoo on the domain.
The Hobart Zoo is most famous for being the location where footage of the last known living Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine, was taken in 1936. It died in captivity in Hobart Zoo on 7 September 1936.
The Zoo was first opened in 1895 in the private residence of Mary Roberts. After the death of Mrs Roberts in 1922 the current site was constructed and the collections of animals moved from the Battery Point property to the zoo site. The new zoo was opened on the 2nd of February 1923, although some of the new exhibits (such as the lions) had not arrived as yet. Even so 100 animals and 220 birds were there at the time is opening.
The zoo was closed in 1937 due to extreme financial problems.
This cache celebrates the zoo and the part in Tasmanian folk lore that it holds.
