The Church was built as St Mark's Church for the United Free Church between 1868 and 1869. It was designed by Pilkington and Bell in a free Gothic style typical of Frederick T Pilkington. The church was extended in 1879 by Ireland and MacLaren. Tower and spire at north-east corner, shoulder arched door in pointed porch to east, advanced gablet to north with 2-light window and hexafoil rose. Impressively wide north elevation with elaborate centre piece with paired pointed-arched doorways.
The interior has a U-plan gallery on stout masonry columns and timber twisted barley-sugar columns. Slim cast-iron columns at gallery level carry the hammerbeam roof. Ornate bowed timber pulpit and organ case. Original pews and light fittings. Stained glass windows, by Stephen Adam, Glasgow, 1903
