Earth Day Celebration: Plant it for the Planet!
Since 1999, the StreamTeam has coordinated a large scale community celebration for Earth Day. Each year, hundreds of people join the team to plant native trees along our waterways, protecting local water quality and quantity.
The StreamTeam will celebrate its 14th annual event on Saturday, April 20 along the Salmon Creek Greenway between Klineline Pond and the VGSA softball fields.
Please bring gardening gloves and appropriate footwear with you.
Volunteers will celebrate Earth Day by planting native trees and enjoying the EcoFair with free children's activities, live music and entertainment. Our StreamTeam program proactively addresses the problems facing the Salmon Creek watershed. Since the voluntary program’s inception in 1992, more than 700,000 trees have been planted to restore approximately 120 acres of land along 15 miles of stream length. We've also installed 10 miles of livestock exclusion fencing, two miles of bank stabilization and removed tons of garbage - literally! We do this with the help of dedicated people like you!
The StreamTeam is a volunteer-driven program of Clark Public Utilities. Comprised of more than 1,000 team members who donate more than 3,500 hours of their time each year to save salmon. StreamTeam members come from a myriad of backgrounds including utility employees, Stream Stewards, scout groups, college students, youth groups and a variety of individuals.
