This cache is situated on a short walking track to an old gold
mining area, but be sure to waypoint the car park location
(S42 40.121, E171 06.318) before you set out. You may be thankful
you did later.
It is recommended that you take with you not only your GPS but
also a torch, stout footwear and clothing adequate for outdoor
activity in the West Coast bush (it rains here quite
frequently).
The track through the dense native bush is well formed, but is
quite steep and narrow in places. Steep dropoffs from the track are
NOT guard-railed. GPS coverage is non-existant in a couple of
places due to the terrain and high trees but is excellent at the
cache site.
The cache is a 2.3 litre camo container with logbook and swap
goodies.
Extra excitment For added spookiness attempt this cache
at night but be sure to double up on the number of torches per
person to avoid having to camp out the rest of the night on the
track. Take a snack bar or two as well.
Risks:
- Slippery footing on wet and moss covered rocks and boards.
- The track is narrow in places with steep dropoffs - take
special care if you have any small children in your party.
