Geocache Description:

12 May 2013, 00:00 - 13:00

When:

Sunday 12th May 2013

Where:

National Steam Museum, at the above co-ordinates. Families Encouraged.

Time:

arrive 9.30am.

Briefings start at 9.45am. The first team will set out on the hunt from 10.00 am and then return from 12.00 noon to the start location for the munch at 12.30pm.

Details:

Teams will be participating in a 2ish hour car based treasure hunt, followed by BYO lunch. Details and full instructions for the 'treasure hunt' will be distributed when you arrive. This ensures everyone gets the information at the same time, and have the same amount of preparation (ie: None)

Teams:

Please note: There is a limit 12 teams/cars on the road, and this is on a first come first served basis.

As the driver can't take part in the treasure hunt (looking at GPS, reading maps etc) it makes sense that you team up. Full cars are recommended. If you wish to form a team please put the details in your attendance log by listing your ‘team’ name, cachers names, number of people in your team.

For cachers wishing to combine with other cachers either organise between you or alternatively contact me and I can 'pair' you up.

If all the places aren't taken up before hand, you may be able to turn up on the day and find a team, but we will have to see how the entries go. To secure a place please log your attendance by 5pm on Friday 10th May.

Clues:

The basic format will be that you will be setting out looking for GPS co-ordinates, and answering questions. There will be a few other surprises on the day.

Prizes:

In order to cut down on costs, each team should bring a wrapped item(s) suitable to put in a cache prize box (around $5 per person or 1 prize around $10 - $15 per car). These will then be given out as prizes.

There will also be the kudos of winning!! Winners will be listed on the cache page for all time!

Co-ordinates:

On the day instructions will be provided which will include questions and full co-ordinates. You do not have to do any pre work before the day.

What do you need:

  • Car full of fuel
  • At least 1 GPS per car (2 would be even better. But no mapping software)
  • Road Map: like a Melways
  • NO satnavs or equivalent (or have them turned off street navigation!)
  • One team mascot (soft toy or simlar) (One per team)
  • Prizes (see above!)
  • Means to take a digital photographs
  • A writing implement and clipboard
  • A mobile phone per car to receive "bonus location" text message

Maps:

You will require either a street directory (like Melways etc) or any map that covers the greater Melbourne area.

Munch:

Bring along food and beverages of choice. There will be a BBQ available, if the weather is conducive for that sort of thing on the day.

Important Instructions:

As cache/event setter/organiser I cannot accept any responsibility for any problems encountered during the day, including motoring accidents, speeding etc.

Like all caches, it is entirely your choice to take part in the event. By setting out to this event, the driver is responsible for any third party action that may arise during the day. I as organiser am not responsible for any actions you take.

See notes below for the driver.

The route could be 60+ kilometres around the start/end location, so please ensure you have a full tank of fuel, or you could be wasting precious time getting fuel.

It is advisable to bring a paper road map (includes minor roads) and remember no mapping software.

Please note that laptops/notebooks, Pocket PC's / In car Navigation software etc with routing will be banned on the day! Map software on GPS's will also be banned.

Although there is no way I can enforce these rules, please abide by them and make it a fair 'competition'. The idea is to test your navigation skills using 'traditional' methods!

Full rules and instructions will be given on the day. First vehicle to depart at 10.00 am so please be prompt!

Driver:

The Driver has to comply with all Victorian driving laws and therefore can take no part in navigation for the treasure hunt (looking at GPS, reading maps, making decisions etc). He/she can only take instructions from passengers as to which direction to drive in.

He/she must be in full control of the vehicle and even though the event is time and score based all speeding laws must be followed, and obviously drive slower if the conditions require.

Co-ordinates must be passed if the road conditions or traffic does not allow safe stopping.

The driver has complete responsibility for duration of the event for his/her passengers safety.

Driving faster than the speed limit is not required for this event. Strategy will play a bigger part.

The table below shows the information that I require in your attending log before the event.
