Ellisville Harbor
is a six stage multi that will take you on a tour of the state park. Your search will take you through fields pocketed with cedar trees, then down hill and along the sandy and stone covered beach. From stage three, head southerly along the beach. Check out the evidence of the winter's erosion where the bases of the dunes have been undercut and continue on the the "new entrance" to Ellisville Harbor, before heading for stage four. Return to the cache by the marsh trail, passing by the resident osprey with the large nest. Each stage is designed to match its setting and all are in plain view from the right angle. (please replace any stage that gravity gets to ;-) Update 11/22/22 The hints have been updated to include stage heights above the ground. The final itself is "winter friendly" up to maybe 3" of snow. Stay outside of the piping plover "fence" in season: nothing has been placed in there. Addendum: The Ellisville Harbor entrance channel dredging has raised the water in the salt marsh to levels not seen in a hundred years. Parts of the marsh trail behind the dunes now regularly flood at extreme high tides. Cache will play harder near high tide...More recently the old entrance channel has reasserted itself and the tide range is moderating.
