Geocache Description:

This geocache is a brief walk from the posted parking coordinates, along the way there's a trail post #12 to guide you along. This trail is part of Willowdale State Forest: it features a boardwalk next to a beaver dam, and a great view of the marsh area you'll also see from Route 1 if you approach from the north. The Related Web Page above takes you to a trail map.

This cache was originally conceived as a shout-out to the local volunteers who make nice boardwalks and maintain trails in Essex County. Given recent events we thought we'd widen the scope of the "thank you."

The Essex County Trail Association (ECTA) and REI collaborated to build the boardwalk you'll enjoy on the way to this cache. Chances are the other boardwalks you enjoy in the area (Bradley Palmer, Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Danvers Rail Trail, and Millstone Hill in Manchester come to mind) were built by volunteers!

Volunteers also enhance your geocaching experience, a video that highlights the 400+ folks that do this is here: (visit link)

Then there are geocachers who participate in Cache In, Trash Out (CITO) events (visit link) , pulling together for huge cleanups in their communities. Thank you for volunteering your time to make the outdoors cleaner.

Another form of volunteering manifested itself in the bravery displayed by the ad-hoc volunteers who helped after the Boston Marathon Bombing. Boston Strong, our hats off to them, too.

This cache is a bison tube off the north side of the Bay Circuit Trail (visit link) that threads through here. Bring your camera and a writing implement, it’s a nice spot. If you must swap swag, we recommend the neighboring cache by Cachingrox, GC3GVET Tucked Away, the cache that brought us to this beautiful area. This is our 40th published cache, please enjoy!

First-To-Find prize is an American coin rarer than our usual leave, a John F. Kennedy half dollar from the 1960s in a deluxe viewing box. As president, Kennedy formed the Peace Corps, a volunteer organization that coincidentally introduced my parents to each other. So for all you do, Volunteers – thank you. Co-FTF honors go to mtnlion mothergoose and chief turtles, Happy Spring!
