Geocache Description:

The other day I got what seemed like a challenge from an Estacadian. "You've got to find Peavine." he said "I've looked, but...."
I drove to the summit once to look for the site a few years ago, but couldn't find it either. I knew it was 1/2 a mile North, but the roads in the area are pretty confusing. So I forgot about it until the other day.

This time, after studying the '38 maps, I saw the old way in was from Summit Lake. And after looking at Google earth, I found a spot I had to check. A couple of miles from the lake is the old road that goes up to a gravel pit. The map says it goes through, to the summit, and beyond. It's at the high spot about a half mile North of the summit. The gravel pit is very visible with Google Earth and I was worried that the entire site had been dug up. But to my luck, (and everyone else that likes to find these places) it seems like all the digging was around the lookout and the shed. It's like they purposely didn't dig here. Everywhere else is dug pretty deep, all around. Only one footing is out of position, like it was just bumped by a dozer. You can even tell which way the tower fell when the forest service burned it. All 4 footings remain as well as lots of pieces and parts.
I parked at the intersection of the 140 and 205 roads. The 205 is blocked here and at the gravel pit. It's .9 of a mile walk up, and mabe 500 feet. There might be an easier way in from the top, but I'm not sure. The road goes past the pit, and there are old quad tracks here. I get the feeling that not too many people come up here anymore.
Please take care when you build the rock house around the cache.
