This is your typical GRC at a COOL place. As usual, please use caution at these stops beside the road.
This is a babbling brook that comes from not all that far away, but it has a rather large elevation change in a short distance. There are many good spots for a soak.
The following is from the webpage.. http://foothills.mainememory.net/page/3742/display%3Fpage=4.html
Scattered farms were located just “above the hill” going towards Carthage and Weld. Joseph Mitchell and his wife “Aunt Hannah” Dillingham settled on the farm through which this brook runs about 1802. A woman of strong character, many stories are told of her sayings and doings. The brook which bears her name was once the water supply for the Town of Dixfield.
Feel free to bring a pole and a young one or two and try your luck. Please reference the Maine Open Water fishing regulations. For 2013 they are: Aunt Hannah Brook, Dixfield. From Rt. 142 downstream to the confluence with Webb River: S-9. And this means S-9: Open to fishing only for persons under 16 years of age. Restricted to two lines per person. Daily bag limit on trout: 2 fish. Please respect the abutting property owners’ rights.
