Growing up not far from here, Lowell Heritage State Park and the Vandenburg Esplanade have always been a part of my life. Twenty years ago it became an even more important part of it. It may have seemed like any other night to the young woman by my side at the start of our walk but by its end, it would be a night that would change our lives forever. At one point we stopped, I asked her to look up at the stars and make a wish (something she did regularly). When she looked down, she saw the ring and I asked her if her wish came true, then I asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. As I'm sure you can guess.. she said yes (otherwise I wouldn't have told the story!)
I wish you could have seen this park 20 years ago! Back then there was no graffiti, the retaining wall was in better shape, and the park benches didnt look like they were 20 years old. I hope the city and state will look into sprucing up the park again soon.
This is a heavily used park, particularly in good weather. Stealth is required. The area also plays host to outdoor concerts, carnivals, and boat racing. Just down river from the cache location you can rent kayaks (or take lessons) at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell boathouse, or swim further down river at Rynne Beach (1. the river wasnt clean enough to swim in 20 years ago. 2. there's another cache there). Please bring your own writing utensil and please replace exactly as found.
Congratulations to Irishemt30 for the FTF!
