Most think that the Brighton family earned their wealth from the lodge they maintained along the route between Park City and Alta. Although frugal and hard-working, the income of the lodge did not seem to explain the family's wealth. Stewart Brighton was known to have done some prospecting in his spare time, but he never staked a mining claim. It was almost as if he had a genie granting his wishes. When a small building on the site of the family's former lodge was being torn down recently, some papers were found in a strong box. Among them was a paper with a grid of numbers and letters. Could this be a clue to how well his family lived? The grid is reproduced below.
