Welcome to The Three Turk's Heads
Another one of several historic and picturesque caches on Cape Ann

IN 1614, JOHN SMITH anchored in what would later be called Sandy Bay. Casting his eyes over the landscape before him, he saw the homes of the Agawam Indians in the distance. Along the coast he saw a "fair headland...fronted by three isles." To this land he gave the name Tragabigzanda, the name of a Greek maiden who had been kind to him while he was held captive by Turks. The three islands he dubbed The Turk's Heads, in memory of his triumph over three Turkish gladiators which he had slain and beheaded during his imprisonment. Prince Sigimundus of Transylvania, granted approval to symbolize the three Turks in Smith’s coat of arms.
Today the Turk's Heads Islands before you are known as Thatcher's Island (Twin Lights) directly offshore, Straightsmouth Island to the north, and Milk Island to the south. This is likely the only public accessible place where all three islands can be viewed from a single vantage point on shore. The cache is a smaller sized container but big enough to host small trading items and trackables. Please be mindful of some poison ivy in the area but none need be contacted while searching for the cache. NO BUSHWACKING NECESSARY. Parking?-The only nearby parking is the lot designated for residents only at the end of Old Penzance Rd. but during the off season there is rarely any problem with a short visit. It should take less than 20 minutes to do the cache. If someone stays with the vehicle, that's even better. Use your best geo-judgement. Also you may wish to visit the gallery for some other images.
