Geocache Description:

It has been over five years since I last placed a cache.  But now I'm back in the game, with a new cache out there in the woods, and a puzzle here to lead you to it.

There are many creative mystery cache hiders around here, with a wide variety of different types of puzzles. Some of them are easy, and some are very difficult to solve. Sometimes the puzzle creator gives it to you straight, telling you exactly what to do to solve the puzzle. Sometimes it's more like a curve ball, where you have to guess where the puzzle is going and figure out the rules for yourself. Sometimes it is even hard to find the puzzle!

This puzzle is a bit of both. You can easily see where the puzzle is, and I will tell you the coordinates are hidden there. But I'm not going to tell you how they are hidden or what you should do to find them.

You might find a red herring before you find the cache. This must be a difficult puzzle, because nobody is finding the answer straight away. If this was a test, I'd have to grade it on a curve.

Some bushwhacking is required. You could bushwhack straight to the cache, but it might be easier to find the trail and follow it around the curve to the left.

Update Dec 8, 2013. The American Cryptogram Association is a good place to learn about many kinds of ciphers. If you know about the Vigenere cipher, it could lead you to another clue for this cache. But you don't need to learn about any of the other ciphers described there, and you don't need to scour the web for more information. Everything you need to solve the puzzle is on this page, or one click away.

Update Jan 19, 2014. Don't let the high difficulty rating deter you from solving this puzzle. Anybody can solve it. You don't need to write any software programs. You don't need to download anything. You don't need to be an expert at solving cryptograms or other ciphers. You just need to be an astute observer, notice the clues, and make the connection between the clues and the puzzle. When Team Sandyhead solved it, he told me "Now you've made it too easy!"

Update Dec 14, 2014. I'm surprised there has been no activity. Really, anybody can solve this just from the clues on this page. You don't need any fancy tools. Just think about some old fashioned drafting tools like a straightedge and a French curve, and you'll be well on your way to the solution.

You can check your answer at certitude.
