Comtu Cascade Park located at the head of Main Streen in Springfield was created by the designated downtown organization, "Springfield on the Move".
This section of the Black River was formed by a glacier that carved a unique water system through what is now the middle of the town. A series of waterfalls amassing a fall of 110' within a 1/8 mile streach of the river was a great source of power. Early pioneers of industry quickly advanced from water wheel power to construction their own hydroelectric plants, some of which still operate today, selling the power they produce to "the grid"
Comtu is indian for Great noise.
