The Phantom
The Phantom is a costumed crime-fighter operating from the fictional African country Bangalla. He was created in 1936 by Lee Falk in his American adventure comic strip. There have also been a Phantom movie and TV show.

The Phantom is the 21st in a line of crime-fighters that originated in 1536, when the father of British sailor Christopher Walker was killed during a pirate attack. Swearing an oath on the skull of his father's murderer to fight evil, Christopher started the legacy of the Phantom that would be passed from father to son, leaving people to give the mysterious figure nicknames such as "The Ghost Who Walks," "The Man Who Cannot Die" and "Guardian of the Eastern Dark," believing him to be immortal.

Unlike many fictional costumed heroes, the Phantom does not have any superpowers, but instead relies on his strength, intelligence, and fearsome reputation of being an immortal ghost to defeat his foes. The 21st Phantom is married to Diana Palmer. Like all previous Phantoms, he lives in the ancient Skull Cave, and has a trained wolf, Devil, and a horse named Hero.

The Phantom was the first fictional hero to wear the skintight costume that has now become a hallmark of comic book superheroes, and was also the first shown wearing a mask with no visible pupils, another superhero standard.

The Phoon
To claim this find you must strike a “Phoon” pose at the posted coordinates, facing east towards the nearest fenced rectangle and scowling in true Phantom manner. Face in the direction that will have the third post to your left from SW corner post of the rectangle lined up with the fourth post to your left from the SE corner post (don’t count the corner posts).

To help future seekers get into the Phoon-mood, have someone (a fellow cacher or muggle) snap your picture and post this photo as part of your log (check the “Phoontom Photo” above for both the needed scowl and the needed pose).

Rules for the Phoon pose (more or less as posted at www.phoons.com):
- stand sideways to the camera facing EXACTLY as directed above (a Phoon is always viewed from the side);
- bend your arms at the elbows (look like an athletic runner, not a ballerina);
- lift your rear elbow (not your hand) so that it is easy to see it behind your back;
- lean forward at the waist (this will help you look more energetic and will help you lift your rear leg);
- aim your Phantom scowl STRAIGHT ahead;
- either arm can be the rear arm;
- either leg can be the rear leg;
… and don't tip over!

You may phret that you’ll look and pheel a little phoolish, but just go out and have some phoon!
